This course is for people who are interested in cooking healthy family meals using seasonal foods. You will be introduced to a variety of basic information on cooking techniques, flavours, equipment, recipes, and nutrition which will enable you to produce a range of dishes.
During the course you will make several dishes and learn about Health &Safety requirements while working in a kitchen. At the start of the course and during lessons, there will be an opportunity to talk about recipes, cost of ingredients and how to start collecting store cupboard ingredients. You will be shown how to adapt a recipe to your individual taste, so as to make the course an enjoyable and meaningful learning experience.
You will need to provide your own food and possibly some equipment, although most cooking equipment will be available at Newsham Centre. A list of requirements will be given at enrolment and induction. Alternative recipes will be offered for those who have specific dietary requirements. You will also need an apron, tea towel and dish cloth and a folder for your recipes and handouts.
