• Dressmaking & Cookery Courses

    Hello,

I’m Elizabeth, owner/ tutor of Liverpool Food and Craft (LFC).

It was a dream come true when achieving a Design and Technology, Food and Textiles degree with qualifying teacher status, (BA Hons QTS) at Liverpool John Moores University in 1998.    From an early age, I used to spend my pocket money on Mary Berry packet cake mixes, and this started my interest in cooking for my family.  From aged 11, I was taught how to make my own clothes by my mother  and when she bought her shop a few years later, May’s in Green Lane, Tuebrook, Liverpool,  selling haberdashery, knitting yarns, Ladies and children’s clothes, I used to help her out.  Later I made clothes for my own children, then made extra to sell on markets and at clothes parties.

After qualifying, I taught in Liverpool schools and then in my adopted town of  Wigan, where I had lived for 26 years and brought up my children, before teaching in The Channels Islands for five years.  Whilst living in Jersey, I also hosted international students in my home for a local Language School.  A natural progression was to gain the Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) qualification, so teaching English has been added to my portfolio.

Meanwhile, returning home to my city of Liverpool in 2010, I have operated as a sessional cookery and dressmaking tutor for Liverpool Adult Learning Services since gaining the Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector qualification (PTLLS).

Liverpool Food and Craft has evolved because learners flourished and wanted the opportunity to challenge themselves further in a friendly, shared environment, and to continue building up their skills progressively.  People loved being creative in their spare time; liked learning with others in the group, whilst also receiving one-to-one tuition; and enjoyed meeting new friends in their own local communities.
